‘Twas the Week Before Christmas

Ho Ho Ho

Ho Ho Ho

Twas the week before Christmas so grab your salt shakers,
No NBA team was challenging Boston,
Not even Kobe and the Lakers.
All the banners are hung In the Garden with care,
In the hope Red is watching and the 18th will appear.
KG and the Truth, Perk, Rondo and Ray,
15 in a row, what a sun shiny day!

Then what to my wondering eyes should appear,
King James in the east with a bench who did more than cheer,
They picked up a point guard and I picked up a glass,
I would love for Perkins to beat Varejao’s ass.
But they’ve learned to play defense so will it all last,
Maybe bring the Celtics a challenge like one of year’s past,

Now the Lakers start is what everyone expected,
Oh they’ll win it all, with Bynum uncontested?
But just wait and see when their true colors are showing,
Their Euro players at the disco with their whistles a blowing.
So while Odom and Luke are enjoying the sun,
Toughness remains a question but no denying their run.

So there’s the top 3 and the pot still stirs,
The Magic, Mavs, Nuggets and the still mighty Spurs.
6 coaches now fired and trades yet to be working,
Only Chauncey and the Nuggnutts truly been lurking.
So if you got a ten piece now don’t be Stingy,
After all it’s christmas season, drink booze and binge!

Down the chimney he came with a leap and a bound,
But went straight to work with not even a sound.
He ate all his cookies and none went to waste…,
And as I remember he yelled out…”Kobe how’s my ass taste!”

Spread the cheer, have a beer!

Another One Bites The Dust

subaru-wrc-prodriveWell, it’s official Subaru has dropped out of the FIA World Rally Championship. Citing the global meltdown of car sales, Subaru said so long to a motorsport in which they were successful in the past, but not so much in the present, with the late Colin McRae and the late Richard Burns bringing home the championships. This departure, of course, leaves David Richards of ProDrive with little to do, except run the Le Mans GT1 team. Perhaps this will clear some bandwidth for him to return to Formula 1 by buying the very team he used to manage in the old BAR days.

This isn’t all of it, however. Subaru isn’t the only team to leave WRC. Suzuki has left town as well, citing the same economic reasoning. Frankly, Suzuki was a non-factor in WRC so I won’t shed any tears over their departure.

So this leaves Citroen and Ford as the only manufacturer teams to remain in WRC. Mitsubishi left a while ago. Peugeot left a couple of seasons ago. Seat did the same. And now Subaru. I certainly hope all this “departing” will not damage the series so much that it will crash and burn the whole thing.

But wait… THERE’S MORE! Both Audi and Porsche have announced that they are pulling out of the American Le Mans Series. Although both were incredibly successful in their respective classes (LMP1 and LMP2), no reasons were officially cited for the pullout.

I suspect that there will be other manufacturers to follow the long list of these escapees – Honda, Subaru, Suzuki, Porsche, Audi… Expect one of the Detroit 3 to pull out of NASCAR. If you want to trim the budget, racing seems to be the first to go. And with GM, Ford and Chrysler in a ton of trouble, it wouldn’t surprise me one bit.

Celtics Continue to (Make it) ‘Reign’

As the Boston Celtics continue to rape other teams in Power Rankings, I question how long it will be until another team comes up. The Celtics currently hold a 14-game winning streak, totaling their wins and losses to 22-2 this season. The 1991-1992 Chicago Bulls were the last team to follow through with these stats, ending their season 67-15 and clinching the national title against the Portland Trail Blazers.

The Los Angeles Lakers and Cleveland Cavaliers are the only two teams that may be able to muzzle the Celtics – Though both seem to be in a competition with each other for no. 2 rather than no.1. I hope other teams can restructure their approach because I’m getting tired of seeing the same few franchises dominate. As exciting as it may be to see the Celtics and Lakers battle it out again at the end of this season, I don’t think many people will care as much as they did last year.

It’s time for the Magic, Hornets and Rockets to step it up! I would like to praise the Blazers and Suns, but Portland seems to be preoccupied with Oden’s lack of self confidence and the Suns have consumed themselves in too many roster changes for anyone to know how to play with each other.
