Mo Money, No Problems

Alright folks, the world of sports is not all steroids and lies.  The arguments over the juiced up era has been going on all week and it’s time we throw a positive spin onto this page.  Let’s steer away from baseball and see what’s going on in the world of hoops.

The NBA all-star game is coming up this weekend and you know that means!  Time to watch a bunch of superstars not play defense and fight to dunk more often than the other.  TNT has gathered Kevin Durant, OJ Mayo and Joe Johnson to play a game of H-O-R-S-E.  This has potential to be at least interesting when players start missing shots and getting letters like H-O.  (This just in, they have actually sold the game of horse to a sponsor.  It will now be the game of G-E-I-C-O.  That’s G-E-I! And I’ve just lost all interest.)  You’re basically combining the slam dunk competition with a shooting challenge full of creativity.  I’ll predict a Joe Johnson victory.

Stop complaining Cavs, Mo Williams is an all-star...finally.

Stop complaining Cavs, Mo Williams is an all-star...finally.

Mo Williams has finally found a spot on the all-star team thanks to another injured player (Chris Bosh) bailing out.  Mo’s teammates have been barking and preaching that their guy has the stats and deserves the respect to make the team.  Gilbert even used words like ‘preposterageous’ to describe the snub.  And you’re worried about our kids learning about steroids?  Let’s just steer away from NBA players as role models for spelling.  Don’t worry Lebron, Stern got your boy in.

Big Al Jefferson is out for the season with a torn ACL in his right knee.  Sad news for such a young player having an amazing season.  This season he averaged 23.1 pts, 10.9 rebounds and 30 double doubles.  Wolves are only getting younger.

Elton Brand needs 6-months after his surgery on his right shoulder to be healthy and able to play.  He signed a 5-year, 80 million dollar contract with the Sixers and played 29 games.  Need I say more?

The Lakers have traded Vladimir Radmanovic to the Bobcats for Adam Morrison and Shannon Brown.  Michael Jordan also had this to say about his moves in the past: “I think we’ve grown from it. I’ve grown from it and hopefully down the road when you make a choice, you try to make a better choice,”  Jordan drafted Morrison and said that sometimes it’s a gamble.  Sometimes players don’t pan out as expected.  Leave it to Jordan to take a gamble on the Morrison mustache ride!

Weekend Wrap-up

Last weekend was a decent weekend for sports: Sugar Shane vs. Margarito, Arlovski vs. Fedor, Lebron’s buzzer beater, Celts vs. Mavs, Lakers vs. Spurs and NHL all-star weekend. Oh the plethora of sports was doused upon us.

So the weekend started with Lebron vs. Stephen Jackson, a battle that demonstrated “anything you can do I can do better.” 30 seconds remained and big shot after big shot led to the final seconds and Lebron with the ball. If you watch that clip, LBJ is a monster, man-child beast. We might as well call him a man beast. It was his first buzzer-beater in his NBA career, most likely not his last.

Onto Boxing, yes people are still pugilists! Now Sugar Shane Mosley fought welterweight champion Antonio Margarito at the Staples Center and the 37-year old Mosley took it to Margarito. He looked like the faster, smoother, stronger and far superior fighter on this night. What was more entertaining was Bernard Hopkins sitting and randomly standing in front of Mark Wahlberg, E from Entourage and a hammered Tobie Maguire in the stands. Wahlberg looked like he was stuck behind a Marge Simpson hairdo at the movies with Hopkins standing and barking at Mosley every round. You’d randomly see his head prop to the side, anyways Mosley KO’d Margarito in the 9th round.

World of MMA, Fedor knocked out Arlovski in the first round of their Affliction title fight. Arlovski was looking solid until he caught a right hook in the chin that face planted his ass into a comatose state. Arlovski went in with a flying knee to the corner and that’s where Fedor capitalized with the one punch sweet chin music. Arlovski’s known for his weak chin, hence the beard he wears to add some protection. On this night beard or no beard, he got knocked the F*** out!

NHL all-star weekend has really lost its luster. I know you’re probably saying “wait, this already happened?” and “What channel was this on?” Oh yes it happened and Versus proves to be the worst camera worked channel in my recent sports memory. Anyways, I remember going crazy when Ray Bourque would go 4 for 4 in the target competition and Al “I’m afraid of” Iafrate slap shot would kill somebody in the stands during the hardest shot competition. Now they’ve incorporated style breakaway shots that resemble a dunk contest minus the quality and excitement. Ovechkin just put on a Beach hat with Canada flags and glasses and skated with two sticks passing himself the puck. He eventually tossed one and scored but it sucked. He of course went on to win the competition. Chara had a 105 mph slap shot in his final attempt that won the contest.

As for the game itself, no one played defense but they did have their first penalty call in an all-star game. Game went into a shootout and was actually pretty entertaining. Ovechkin slotted home the game winner while the Habs Kovalev (hometown captain) took home MVP honors. Ladi freaking Da!

Oh and the Lakers wiped out the Spurs and the Celtics beat up the Mavericks to win their 8th straight, be afraid!

I sat and watched it all. (Well most of it)

‘Twas the Week Before Christmas

Ho Ho Ho

Ho Ho Ho

Twas the week before Christmas so grab your salt shakers,
No NBA team was challenging Boston,
Not even Kobe and the Lakers.
All the banners are hung In the Garden with care,
In the hope Red is watching and the 18th will appear.
KG and the Truth, Perk, Rondo and Ray,
15 in a row, what a sun shiny day!

Then what to my wondering eyes should appear,
King James in the east with a bench who did more than cheer,
They picked up a point guard and I picked up a glass,
I would love for Perkins to beat Varejao’s ass.
But they’ve learned to play defense so will it all last,
Maybe bring the Celtics a challenge like one of year’s past,

Now the Lakers start is what everyone expected,
Oh they’ll win it all, with Bynum uncontested?
But just wait and see when their true colors are showing,
Their Euro players at the disco with their whistles a blowing.
So while Odom and Luke are enjoying the sun,
Toughness remains a question but no denying their run.

So there’s the top 3 and the pot still stirs,
The Magic, Mavs, Nuggets and the still mighty Spurs.
6 coaches now fired and trades yet to be working,
Only Chauncey and the Nuggnutts truly been lurking.
So if you got a ten piece now don’t be Stingy,
After all it’s christmas season, drink booze and binge!

Down the chimney he came with a leap and a bound,
But went straight to work with not even a sound.
He ate all his cookies and none went to waste…,
And as I remember he yelled out…”Kobe how’s my ass taste!”

Spread the cheer, have a beer!
